Codes and conventions of newspaper ads

Here I will be looking at different Channel 4 posters to look for codes and conventions of them because we want our documentary to be shown on Channel 4. We did this so that before we started to create our newspaper ad we knew what to and what not to put on the newspaper ad.

Codes and conventions of a Channel 4 newspaper ad:

-The information text always has boxes around it like the one shown above has black text with a white boxes to make the programme information stand out.
-The Channel 4 logo is always in the same place on the poster which is on the right hand in the middle.
-Channel 4 have there own text which they own and cannot be found anywhere. Its always the same text used on there posters. We obviously can't use this text so we are going to look for the closest text to it that we can.
-There is minimal text on the poster so the audience don't get confused.
-Date and time
-Slogan
-Programme name
-One central image which represents the programme in some way.
Here are some other Channel 4 posters which are still with the codes and conventions:

Edit decision list

Here is our edit decision list, after filming a lot of footage here as shown there are more red crosses than there is of green ticks. The red crosses is the footage we filmed but we didn't end up using and the green ticks are the footage we did use for the documentary. This is because no matter how much is filmed there are always only a few parts of the footage that is usable.

Voiceover recording

For the voice recording we decided that we wanted it to be a male voice, this was because the male voice should be soothing and relaxing and the women watching the show would be more interested in what he was saying because he would be relaxing to listen to. We used the radio room to record the voiceover which we learnt how to use. Equipment we used was the computer, audio control switchboard, headphones and mic. We used the audio controls to listen to the volume of the voice that was speaking through the mic so we was able to turn the volume up or down to make it sound good. The voiceover was then put onto a USB so then we could then import it into Adobe Premier Pro CS5 where the rest of the making of our documentary was.
